HPL, acrylic or aluminium? Choose kitchen fronts by how you use them
A common source of confusion when ordering a kitchen in Riyadh is that material names are used as if they were interchangeable. HPL and acrylic are finishes bonded onto an inner board, while aluminium can be the carcass or the front itself. There's no best material for everyone; first ask about the core, the edges and water exposure.

The short answer
| Material | Strength | Watch for | |
|---|---|---|---|
| HPL | Resin-soaked paper layers pressed under heat; many finishes, practical, easy to clean | The board underneath and how well the edges are sealed | |
| Acrylic | Gloss and visual depth on modern fronts | Fingerprints and scratches, depending on the product | |
| Aluminium | A metal carcass that doesn't swell with water | Profile quality, hinges and finish |
Three questions before you order
- What exactly is included: carcass, fronts, worktop, hardware and installation, or only some of them?
- What is the core board, and how are the edges protected next to the sink and dishwasher?
- Is there a real sample to test cleaning, scratching and reflection?
If you cook every day, easy cleaning and durability matter more than a glossy catalogue photo. Installation quality and ventilation are part of a kitchen's life too.
